Background: More was founded in 1998 by former Ladies' Home Journal editor-in-chief Myrna Blyth who believed that the magazine industry abandoned women once they turned 40. "Beginning with Seventeen, there were magazines for every stage of a woman's life, but when [Blyth] looked at her peer group of all these very capable women, she realized no one was talking to them," said Ila Stanger, More's managing editor. Stanger said that from its inception the magazine has emphasized, "how resilient women are," steering clear of anything that portrays women as victims. "Our readers are activists in every sense of the word: They're strong, they're resilient, they're capable, they take charge." But, said Stanger, More is "about celebrating, entertaining and enlightening, not crusading or proselytizing."...
