Well, well, well. The year 2006 is all of six days old, and already Fairchild has effectively ceased to exist, Martha Nelson's ascension at Time Inc. has risen another half-rung, and McGraw-Hill—publisher of BusinessWeek and a huge portfolio of lesser-known titles and book imprints—has announced it will lay off 500 people.
