Background: Julie Castiglia launched Castiglia Literary Agency in 1993 after working for other literary firms. Born and educated in England, she is the author of three published books, many newspaper and magazine articles, and essays and poetry in literary anthologies. She has since retired from writing, however, to focus solely on her agency, where she is joined by agents Winifred Golden and Deborah Ritchken.
As a writer herself, Castiglia is able to uniquely relate to her clients and is adamant that they do everything they can to promote and educate themselves. "Writing conferences [are] a must for any burgeoning author," she says. "At conferences, authors get to meet editors and other authors and agents, and they learn a whole lot in a short amount of time."
Castiglia, Golden and Ritchken all believe that their unfailing attention to their clients is what puts them above the competition. "Once an author is a client, they get all kinds of special attention from us," says Castiglia who believes in a hands-on approach. "We make every effort to find the right publisher, not just any publisher."
