So Not Jane: Condé Folds Pratt's Former Mag
July 10, 2007
Another pair bites the dust: Condé Nast
pulled the plug on
Jane yesterday just as it killed
Mademoiselle shortly after 9/11. (Ironic observers will note that the failure of that magazine was once blamed on
Jane Pratt herself.) Also
gone before its time (or even before its launch, really): Bauer's
Cocktail Weekly, yet another frothy fusion of
Us Weekly and
Glamour priced at less than $2. (Apparently Bauer couldn't line up distributors.) The ensuing
carnage claimed 60 staffers at
Jane, including editor-in-chief
Brandon Holley, publisher
Carlos Lamadrid, and everyone unable to find a job elsewhere within Condé.

The How to Pitch series is worth its weight in gold. In just the first month I'd already benefited enough to consider the cost of joining well worth it.
