New EIC at Men's Journal; ABC News Shuffles Staffers

November 23, 2010
Jann knows best. Or at least he thinks he does, and he signs the checks so that's all that matters. Keith Kelly reports the head of Wenner Media plans to install Rolling Stone executive editor Jason Fine at the top of the Men's Journal masthead. The move comes a week after the surprise firing of Brad Wieners. The editorial teams of the two publications will work more closely going forward. "It isn't actually a full merger between RS and MJ -- just a slow but definite takeover," one source tells the New York Post scribe. Call it what you want, but it has the potential to be an extremely ugly situation...

John Bussey, bureau chief at The Wall Street Journal's Washington D.C. outpost, returns to New York for a promotion. Jerry Seib takes over his vacant role... The Washington Times fires editor-in-chief Sam Dealey. Managing editor Chris Dolan steps into the acting EIC role while the paper searches high and low for a replacement... Scott Montgomery lands the editor gig at Roll Call. Editorial director Mike Mills said he wanted to hire someone from outside, but Montgomery previously served as the company's director of consumer publishing... Big changes at The Daily. Guillaume Bruneau joins from Elle as art director, while group creative director Hilli Pitzer departs. Senior editor Valentine Uhovski says goodbye along with writer/reporters Emily Gyben and Emily Popp... Jason Fell leaves Folio: for Entreprenuer.com...

Jon Miller, booted from ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball after more than 20 years, likely won't be taking the network up on its offer to work games on the radio. He'll remain the World Series champion San Francisco Giants lead play-by-play man... Bo LaMotte steps down as senior vice president of distribution at Universal Sports Network. He's been with the network since it launched in 2006... ABC News hands out new assignments to multiple correspondents...

Jason Peterson replaces Blake Ebel as chief creative officer at Euro RSCG's Chicago office... Paul Stechschulte, the guy who brought you Sprint's "Now Network" campaign, uses some leverage to score an ECD gig at Pereira O'Dell... James Bruno departs Remedi Senior Care for Vocus where he'll serve as SVP of corporate development... The employee fired by Google for leaking a memo about the company's 10 percent raise policy? That would be Randy Wigginton, also known as Employee No. 6 at Apple... Foursquare opens an office in San Francisco and looks to hire talent... And there are changes at MensHeath.com, The Independent Magazine, and more...
