Yahoo Finds New Leader; Fox Signs Up Cheney

January 10, 2012
Yahoo has a new head -- CEO Scott Thompson -- but could be losing some big names from the board. Kara Swisher, who calls the group "about as dysfunctional as they come," posits that chairman Roy Bostock might finally lose his spot. Jerry Yang, who is fighting tooth and nail to retain some control in the company he founded, could also be out. The departure of the board's two biggest names would be a boon to the future of the company, as each has been out of his depth for some time. Whether they see the light and leave, however, remains to be seen...

It looks like Patrick Buchanan might be out at MSNBC. The issues stem from statements in his latest book, Suicide of a Superpower. Some groups rightly believe a few of the arguments in the publication are racist and anti-Semitic... Fox News signs up Liz Cheney (yes, former Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter) as a contributor. She follows on the heels of Chelsea Clinton's hire at NBC, although insiders are whispering that Bill's offspring might already be out at the Peacock (a claim that's vehemently denied by other insiders)... CNN ad sales head Greg D'Alba gets promoted to president, news and Turner digital ad sales... Fox ups Preston Beckman to senior strategist for the Networks Group... Keith Olbermann will anchor Current TV's election coverage after the New Hampshire primary. There were battles between the outspoken personality and the network's executives, but everyone is happy (for now)... Bob Woodruff's wife, Lee, joins CBS This Morning as a contributor. She had been contributing to Good Morning America...

Michael Idov lands another gig, this one as editor-in-chief of GQ's Russia version. He hopes to make it more feature-driven... New York hires Christopher Anderson as its first-ever photographer-in-residence. He shot the "Workplace Confidential" series in this week's magazine... W promotes Kristin Reilly Davidsson to associate publisher... Whole Living adds OnEarth articles editor Jocelyn Zuckerman as executive editor...

Nico Pitney leaves as managing editor at the Huffington Post. Jimmy Soni, the headwoman's 26-year-old chief-of-staff, replaces him... Kevin Delaney leaves WSJ.com for Atlantic Media Company. He had been managing editor of the Journal's online efforts. On the print side, WSJ loses Steve Stecklow and Douglas Blackmon to Reuters and the Washington Post, respectively... Tina Brown snags David Frum for The Daily Beast/Newsweek... Reuters hires Matthew Keys as deputy social media editor. He'll work closely with Anthony De Rosa to expand the company's growing presence on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr and whatever else pops up in the near future (Pinterest, anyone?)... And there are changes at Glamour, Hearst Magazines and more...
