WSJ Poaches From Times; Bloomberg's Shocking Cut

Liz Heron leaves The New York Times for The Wall Street Journal where she'll take over as director of social media and engagement. She fills the spot vacated by Zach Seward, who jumped to Atlantic Media. Heron will report to Raju Narisetti, the managing editor for digital. Capital NY's Joe Pompeo points out that the pair previously worked together at the Washington Post. Nice how that works out. Your move, Gray Lady...

Bloomberg News fires editor William Ahearn, a move that "shocked and saddened Bloomberg bureaus around the world." He had been editor for A. Craig Copetas, who was cut last month after poking around too much into torture and fiscal corruption in the United Arab Emirates. The financial giant also loses Ashley Lutz to Business Insider. She will cover retail and other topics for Henry Blodget's growing empire... The Chicago Tribune cuts 15 as part of the Tribune Co.'s effort to remain solvent. The editorial departures come on the back of roughly 10 buyouts last month... The New York Times promotes Marc Frons as chief information officer. Frons, who launched in 1995, had been chief technology officer for the company's digital operations...

Diane Newman leaves American Media. And no one knows exactly what Richard Spencer, editor-in-chief of OK!, is doing. He doesn't seem to be in the office... Yachting promotes Mary South to editor-in-chief. She had been deputy editor and is the magazine's first EIC in its 105-year history... D CEO hires Jessica Melton as assistant editor. She will also handle the publication's real estate blog, RealPoints...

Brian Rooney, son of Andy, joins CBS News as a contributor. He had been with ABC until staff cuts in 2010... Tony Cassara is out as CEO of Young Broadcasting. He's been in the position for less than a year... CNN grabs Trish Turner from Fox to serve on Anderson Cooper 360...
