Murdoch Leaves Another Board; Times Offers New Terms

March 27, 2012
James Murdoch leaves his board position at Times Newspapers Holdings. Rupert's son, who is trying to help the public forget he was closely affiliated with News Corporation's newspapers, had served on the organization that "was created to safeguard the editorial independence of The Times of London and The Sunday Times." Elsewhere in Murdoch-land, The Daily head Jesse Angelo will get more of a role in NYPost.com. The real question is whether he can turn it around (and what happens to The Daily if he's focusing his efforts elsewhere)...

The New York Times and the Newspaper Guild of New York seem a bit closer to coming to terms, with the latter calling the former's new effort at negotiation "slightly less offensive" than previous efforts. So, progress!... It is getting ugly at the Washington Post as Jenny Abramson is out, joining digital start-up Personal. She had been head of Washington Post Live after starting as an intern in 2004. According to a memo announcing the news, "Jenny has helped us reinvigorate many businesses with her great focus and energy."... Robert Sapio leaves the New York Daily News where he's been for 40-plus years. The departure was a "long time coming," according to a source the New York Observer scores. Sapio had most recently been managing editor...

There are changes in the ranks of the sports section at the Cincinnati Enquirer. Assistant managing editor Barry Forbis and deputy sports editor Rory Glynn hand in their resignations within a week of each other. Forbis joins Fox Sports in Los Angeles while Glynn is simply leaving... Lincoln Millstein lands a promotion at Hearst Newspapers. He'll be executive vice president, deputy group head...

Former Vice editor-in-chief Jesse Pearson launches a new magazine with his friend Sam McPheeters. Exploded View is a lit magazine and the first issue includes a feature by former Nation of Ulysses front man Ian Svenonius... Kate Lee leaves ICM (and book agenting entirely) to do something else. She helped guide to print the tomes of writers including Jeff Jarvis, Brian Stelter and Adam Penenberg... Alex Perez joins the Chicago Bureau of ABC News. He had been at the NBC-owned local station in the Windy City... At the Peacock, Cathy Jones is the new senior vice president of national sales at NBC owned stations in Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth... Matthew Duda leaves Showtime after 31 years... And there are changes at the Associated Press, Sunset and more...
