Founder Marc Smirnoff leaves his post as managing editor of The Oxford American along with managing editor Carol Ann Fitzgerald. Publisher Warwick Sabin takes over as interim editor, a few days after locking the staff out of the office due to a personnel investigation. There's more to this story, clearly...The New York Times picks Margaret Sullivan as public editor. She had been editor and vice president of The Buffalo News, where she started in 1980. Sullivan is the first woman to hold the position and will replace Arthur Brisbane -- who offered "a nice blueprint of how not to go about" the position -- in September. In addition to a column in the print paper, she will be on social media, have a blog and a Web page. Excitement overload...
The Los Angeles Daily Journal, which previously canned its copy editors, fires staff photographers Todd Rogers and Robert Levins. The paper will rely upon freelancers and reporters for its image needs. Management did, however, buy a bunch of cameras... And there are changes at AOL, the Washington Post and more...
