NBC Reorgs; WaPo Exodus Continues

NBC taps Patricia Fili-Krushel to lead the new NBCUniversal News Group. She will oversee NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC and the Weather Channel. The effort means NBC News president Steve Capus and CNBC president Mark Hoffman will report to Fili-Krushel instead of NBCUniversal chief executive Steve Burke. (MSNBC is a division of NBC News and president Phil Griffin will continue reporting to Capus.) The transition brings CNBC under the company's news umbrella for the first time. In a memo to employees, Burke wrote that the reorganization will "enhance collaboration among our news brands" at a time when the Peacock's news divisions are struggling...

Sports Illustrated makes 16 layoffs, 13 of which came voluntarily. Four of the nine photographers on staff are leaving (three of their own volition), which is a blow to the magazine's famous image-focused front of book. Maybe they can just Instagram everything... The New Yorker acquires the Borowitz Report. Proprietor Andy Borowitz says he's allowed to write whatever he wants "as long as I don't make fun of Malcolm Gladwell." Congrats to both parties involved. This is going to be fun... Motorcyclist snags Marc Cook as editor-in-chief. He had been EIC at Kitplanes but previously served as executive editor of his new publication...

Laura Evans continues the executive exodus from the Washington Post, moving to Dow Jones. She had been vice president of research and chief experience officer. Other recent departures include the company's chief revenue officer, executive director of digital news and advertising vice president... Yahoo names Hillary Frey editor-in-chief of its news arm while Aaron Task takes over as EIC of the company's finance vertical... Salon loses Glenn Greenwald to The Guardian where he'll be writing daily for the website of the U.S. edition and weekly for the print paper. He joined Salon in 2007 but hopes to "further internationalize" his readership... Newsweek Daily Beast brings back Dan Gross as editor of global finance. He had been at Yahoo...

Niklas Lindstrom leaves BBDO NY for greener landscapes in his native Sweden. Also, Ronald Ng departs to join BBDO Proximity Singapore as CCO... Luca Lindner moves up at McCann Worldgroup, taking over the company's Americas effort. Gustavo Martinez takes on Lindner's duties in Africa and the Middle East... Zynga names former Yahoo executive Ellen Siminoff to its board of directors. She is currently the president and CEO of Shmoop University... Two former NBC News producers get into the aggregation game with theSkimm, which aims to give ladies something to talk about at cocktail parties. The New York Observer calls it "Newser meets Daily Candy."... And there are changes at The Atlantic, the Associated Press and more...
