Bloomberg Media Group makes a huge hire, poaching Justin Smith from Atlantic Media to be its new chief executive. The incoming talent earned praise for turning around The Atlantic with an impressive and aggressive digital strategy. He replaces Andy Lack, who moves up to chairman. None other than Google's Eric Schmidt believes Smith is the man for the job, telling The New York Times: "How many people have really managed to be successful in digital media? Everyone has tried and few have been successful. Justin is one of them. He is moving very fast, but this is the next logical step. It’s a serious gain for Bloomberg.”...

Set to launch August 20 in the old Current TV slot, Al Jazeera America is staffing up 12 bureaus in cities around the country, including New Orleans, Nashville, Denver and Seattle. The net has hired 10 correspondents while still on the hunt to fill slots in San Francisco and New York. Could Hoda Kotb be joining the ladies on The View? Page Six hears the current Today fourth-hour host could replace Joy Behar, who will leave after 16 years. "She has news experience, which is something The View has not had since Meredith Vieira left. She also adds some diversity to the panel," a source says... David Chalian officially joins Crossfire as a supervising producer. He left his gig as vice president for video programming at Politico earlier in July... Shea Allen loses her job at a Huntsville television station after writing a blog post about going bra-less during a broadcast and taking naps in the news car...

Hearst Magazines grabs Todd Haskell as senior vice president and chief revenue officer of the company's digital media branch. He had been group vice president, advertising for NYTimes.com and previously managed advertising business development for the paper... News Corp. loses Les Goodstein, the senior vice president in charge of the Community Newspaper Group. Cliff Luster replaces the man who joined Rupert Murdoch's behemoth in 2005 after a long career with the Daily News... Variety.com hires Daniel Goldblatt as a New York City-based managing editor. He had been producer and coordinating producer at TMZ.com, where he started in June 2005... The Advocate offers buyouts to employees with more than 15 years of experience and hopes to chop staff by five percent. The move is "a mild corrective," according to general manager and chief operating officer Dan Shea...

ESPN.com decides to hire a blogger to cover every NFL team, which will mean 19 new jobs. One of the first poaches is the Washington Post's John Keim, who will handle the Redskins beat after spending just four weeks at WaPo. The NFL and ESPN: two juggernauts that cannot be stopped... Fab.com eliminates 100 positions in its Berlin office, a move that will reduce redundancies as the company that recently raised $150 million looks to expand into Europe... And there are changes at Essence, Rubenstein Public Relations, and more...
