Why, oh why do the holidays have to correspond with the end of the fiscal year? First BusinessWeek laid off approximately 60 employees last week -- many of them closer to home than first thought -- then Time Inc. fired 105 of its highest paid employees in order to get their salaries off the books. (Now that's a trend we can get behind.) Time magazine itself has dispatched the bureau chiefs in Beijing, Seoul, Moscow, Jerusalem, Los Angeles, and Chicago, plus an executive editor in Hong Kong and assistant managing editor Dorinda Elliott, all part of 11 layoffs in all.
