Barry Bonds has made a career out of savaging (or at least ignoring) the media, often speaking to throngs of reporters in front of his locker (on those occasions that he said anything at all) in a hushed whisper that could barely be heard even by those positioned closest to him.

So what does it take for a media member to get the currently unemployed Bonds to open up? Apparently youth and a clear inability to ask substantive questions. In this regard, CBS 5 intern "Sam" was right in Bonds' wheelhouse.

It wasn't exactly Sam's fault. This clearly was less an arranged interview than something that fell into his lap as Bonds was walking through the tunnel at AT&T park toward his car. And perhaps this put Bonds at ease; at the first sign of a Balco question he'd already be in the process of striding away from the reporter.

As it was, Sam managed to ask if Bonds was staying in shape to "play some ball."

The slugger's response: "Do I look fat?"

Bonds concluded the stroll by introducing Sam to Willie McCovey. All in all, a great get for the intern.
