Digital Signal Nigh Upon Us; No More Delays Says ObamaThere are some who perpetually ignore the apocalypse. Said President Obama yesterday: No more. He was referring, of course, to those Americans who have still not prepared for next week's transition to digital TV.
"I want to be clear: there will not be another delay. I urge everyone who is not yet prepared to act today, so you don't lose important news and emergency information on June 12," Obama said in a statement. The switch -- in which the nation's TV stations were to switch to digital signals, meaning that anybody with an analog antenna television and no converter box would be left in the dark -- was supposed to happen Feb. 17. Then the notion of the isolated and elderly stuck with no Maury Povich struck home, and congress voted to delay the implementation. As of a week from now, however, it's game on: no Maury for the unprepared. Converter boxes can be had for as little as $40, and a $40 coupon is available through the Commerce Department. Previously |
