TechnologyHuffPo Launches New Tech Section, BeetTV Interviews Editor VargasThe Huffington Post's new technology section launches today, edited by former Washington Post national political reporter Jose Antonio Vargas. Vargas told BeetTV during an interview in Manhattan last week that he's not as interested in reviewing the latest gadgets as he is in exploring "behavior." "It's not the gear. It's the people," he said. For example, one upcoming story: Why there are so few African American and Hispanic thought leaders in tech and "what we're missing because of that." Other upcoming posts: Facebook co-founder and Obama social media adviser Chris Hughes on the future of the progressive movement and the social web and FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski on the agency's broadband strategy and the plan to deploy Internet access to all Americans.
Firefox's Billionth Download
Firefox is about to record its billionth browser download. Perhaps by the time you read this it already has. (Yesterday's estimates put the time at 3:45 a.m. PST.) Check out the counter on the Firefox site to see just how close they're getting. To help celebrate the moment, the Mountain View company's celebratory site, One Billion Plus You, will go live on Monday. If that seems like an impressive number, it is. Not long ago, Internet Explorer had a 90-percent market-share; now, that number is down to 54 percent, while Firefox is close to 30 percent. The 1 billion number accounts for every iteration of Firefox since its inception in 2002, though it didn't officially adopt its name until 2004. (Via TechCrunch.) "Three Days in the Valley" coming from Fox BusinessThe FOX Business Network is heading to Silicon Valley for three days, starting Monday, for a feature it's calling "Three Days in the Valley." Interviews on tap for reporter Liz Claman include Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz and Jay Adelson, CEO of Digg. Bigwigs from Intel, eBay, Cisco and Electronic Arts are also on the docket. FOX Business Network can be seen on Comcast Channel 130 in the Bay Area. Live schedule after the break.
