| susaneliya | Posted 1/27/2005 11:22:59 PM | show profile Does anyone have any information on how to break into the international market? I'm looking into moving out of the states and was wondering if anyone could supply me with useful information on international job searches. |
| AIC | Posted 1/28/2005 10:57:27 AM | show profile | email poster What about an international market from the U.S.? I speak two languages other than English, and am working mostly in science editing and writing-- but I would love to use my languages. Is this a potential way to an international market? Any ideas are more than welcome. ------ Scientific Communications Writing, Editing, and Web Content |
| 1000words | Posted 1/28/2005 12:17:53 PM | show profile | email poster There's a book out there that has loads of international publications, but it's pretty dated. (Sorry, I can't remember the name -- it's in storage right now.) Browse your bookstore, as I think I bought mine at Borders. My best recommendation would be to simply query the publications. You can find many editors' names & addresses online, and you might want to subscribe (free) to the European edition of the Worldwide Freelance Writer newsletter: euw-subscribe@topica.email-publisher.com My first-ever freelance piece was purchased by a major magazine outside the US (ie, South Africa). I found it easier to break in, actually -- I received a quick response to my query, and the editor was wonderful to work with. I will say that the pay is not always as high with publications outside the US; it depends on the country. |

| thegirlleastlikelyto | Posted 7/20/2005 12:31:14 PM | show profile | email poster For the UK... If you're interested in the UK, ''The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook'' is also very useful. I think you can order it off Amazon. It lists all publishing houses (books, newspapers, and magazines) in England, Scotland, and Wales, and it also gives you each publication's contact details as well as its core market. Unfortunately, you'll have to do the cold-calling, but at least you'll know what's out there. Hope this helps! |
| The BPM | Posted 8/16/2005 5:18:36 PM | show profile Find the publishers who do your type of writing and hit their websites. Sometimes they have job listings and you could email your resume to them. My company was hiring a couple reporters in Europe a few months back. If I wasn't so attached to San Francisco I coulda moved to Euorpe easily on a similar pay. But SF is addictive. ------ www.wordnbass.com book and music news |
