| flipflap | Posted 3/24/2006 3:10:26 PM | show profile Is there a web site where I can type in my urls and find pages with links to my web site? Of course I already know about the ones that mention my name. They turn up when I google myself. I'm looking for pages with embedded links. I put up a new page & got a ton of hits almost immediately. So I'm wondering if someone posted a link... |
| flight risk | Posted 3/24/2006 3:50:02 PM | show profile One easy way is to type in your url into google. It will then give you the option of seeing all the sites that link to your site or sites with your url in them. |
| Cyrus | Posted 3/24/2006 3:52:38 PM | show profile There are several ways. One is to look at the logs for the site that's getting the traffic. Using that, you can tell if the visit to your site comes not only via a click somewhere else, but directly. You can also use Altavista, which supports a specific query that allows links to be traced. Basically you just type the query: link:yoursiteaddress.com. HTH, Cyrus ------ Cyrus Afzali Astoria Communications www.astoriacomm.com |
| Random Citizen | Posted 3/24/2006 3:53:14 PM | show profile Type link:www.yourwebsite.com into the Google search field and it will pull up the sites. If you have different directories (e.g. /images, /portfolio), you may want to do a separate search for those. |

| cornfrost | Posted 3/24/2006 9:29:55 PM | show profile I think random citizen means do that at google blogsearch, not at google http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch |
| cornfrost | Posted 3/24/2006 9:42:03 PM | show profile also, technorati.com |
| Random Citizen | Posted 3/25/2006 2:21:19 AM | show profile ''I think random citizen means do that at google blogsearch, not at google'' No, I don't. A ''regular'' Google search for the sites linking to one's website will pull up pages from the blogosphere, particularly if they use Blogger, as well as other non-blog websites. If you want to limit it to the blogosphere, that's fine, however, it's just one small piece of the puzzle. |
| willwriteforfood | Posted 3/26/2006 8:35:42 AM | show profile I use technorati.com to check mine. Also, if you have a program to track your hits, it will tell you exactly where the link came from. I use Statcounter.com. |
