having worked for small HR-less companies for a few years now I have no idea what to expect in the way of follow up. I interviewed for a job and haven't heard. Will HR call to let you know you didn't get the job? Or do I just keep after them and risk looking a little looney.

How long has it been since the last interview with the company? Did you ask for them to provide an estimated timeline for when a decision would be made on the position? (If you didn't, add that to your list of questions to ask the interviewer for future reference.)

Most HR staff don't contact people who didn't get the job. You have to be proactive in that arena. If it's been more than 10 days since the interview, send another -- that's assuming you sent a thank-you note following your interview -- follow-up note inquiring about your application's status. Express again how interested you are in working for [insert company name here] and include something discussed during the meeting.

Good luck! I'm interviewing for positions these days as well and have found being assertive (but not aggressive) to be a good thing.

It has been a few days since last contact and they initially said a decsion would be made by the end of this week (HR) but the actual department said they hoped the middle of next week. But to answer your question is has been one week sonce my last i-view.

Is it your experience that the HR department will at least tell you that you didn't get it if you follow uo (in this case maybe middle of next week) or will they just blow you off. At this point I am not as upset about the possibility of NOT getting the job, more upset about the unsettled feeling.

If the actual department is hoping to make a decision by mid-next week, and you are not selected for the position, add a day or two before contacting HR.

Having interviewed with Conde NAst, I can tell you this.. you meet initially with HR and then they will set up interviews with a certiain magazine. You should go on about 2 interviews fo rthe magazine, and if you have made it that far, HR.. not the magazine will call about a day after with the bad news...

Are you interviewing for an entry level position? Or management level? These are also important factors on if you get a call back or not. Good luck!
