| Stephanerd3 | Posted 4/11/2006 2:30:25 PM | show profile | email poster so i'm way past due for a haircut, and bumble & bumble g-bob openings seem to be few and far between. so a friend forwarded me an article that lists a number of different salons that offer cheap/free cuts (and sometimes colors) to those willing to offer themselves up as a hair model: http://www.nymag.com/guides/cheap/haircuts/ anyone used any of these and loved the results? ------ steph - contains multitudes, yet still spends most of her time with the copy machine. |
| sad | Posted 4/19/2006 12:56:54 PM | show profile hair model haircuts I've been to a few of these. John Frieda and Oscar Blandi are the best. |
| nik123 | Posted 5/1/2006 7:13:41 PM | show profile Black Hair Has anyone gone to one of these with ethnic type hair? Mine is a mix and I would love to get a fun cut. |
| sheilamullan | Posted 6/4/2006 10:16:17 PM | show profile bumble & bumble A friend had a Bumble & Bumble cut as a hair model; she has quite curly hair & was pleased with the cut. On a more predictable schedule, the Aveda school in Manhattan has very reasonable cuts, skin care appointments etc. You have to book way in advance.as it's quite popular, but you could chance it as a walk-in. Call ahead for sure. Best of luck, Sheila |
| newyorker | Posted 6/5/2006 10:58:25 AM | show profile I just got a cut at Aveda institute - and I loved it!!! They did exactly what I wanted and gave a head massage as well. Obviously they use all aveda products which I love and its only $18 for a cut. |

| Rockrider | Posted 6/29/2006 10:46:07 AM | show profile Do not go to CARSTEN I used the online NY Mag guide, too, and found the Carsten Institue in Union Square that way. My hair was supposed to be cut in a funky, shaggy bob. It ended up a pixie because the student stylist got "carried away" chopping up my formerly long locks. The worst part was his supervisor, who had to finish the cut for him, was in no way apologetic -- and I still had to pay $15.62 for the damage. |
| yettagain | Posted 6/29/2006 11:42:28 AM | show profile Best haircut and color Louis Licari is the best for color and for cut. The instructors are considerate and strong in the way they teach and guide (they were horrible at Vidal Sassoon, really mean to the students and acted like I was just a "head"). I got exactly what I wanted almost every time - with the exception of the time I went in and wanted Marilyn Monroe blonde. They only do natural looking colors - and advised it would be horrible on my skin tone anyway. I walked out, however, FEELING like Marilyn Monroe -what they did was beyond gorgeous - and for $40! |
| mejm | Posted 6/30/2006 10:48:48 PM | show profile hair model haircuts I think Warren Tricomi is best. I've gotten a good cut there and pretty good highlights. You wind up paying about less than half the regular price, so cuts are around $40 I think, and highlights $70, although they use more than one color, so it's worth it. |
| Mirage | Posted 8/14/2006 3:53:03 PM | show profile Another vote for Aveda They are awesome, but as the other poster mentioned, you have to book pretty far in advance and allow extra time for the appointment if you're doing anything "tricky," like color or straightening. |
| redheadedone | Posted 8/17/2006 12:16:17 PM | show profile Parlor Parlor on Avenue B is amazing! Model cuts are free, model color is $15, if you want to get someone with a bit more experience, academy color is $30. Their normal prices are reasonable and everyone in the salon is very friendly and helpful |
