Does anyone recommend any of the current popular blogging software out there? I am looking to start my own blog, and want to have a domain name without a .blogspot or similar in the title. Eventually I'd like to run ads so I'd need something that could support that and be simply to maintain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Joe

If you don't want a .blogspot or .typepad, it would just require you purchasing your own domain name. The ones using .blogspot (or other .something in the URL) are accounts that are hosted by the company behind the software.

I use Blogger's software for my site, however, I bought a domain name and a hosting package from a different company and worked with a designer to create a unique template.

Typepad and Blogger both have their fans and detractors. However, Typepad does require a bit more technical knowledge, so if you're not comfortable with tweaking the codes that run your site, you may want to opt for Blogger where you don't really have to peek behind the curtain unless you want to.

Thanks for the feedback! Are you referring to blogger.com? Are moveable type and typepad pretty much the same thing. What is your blog if you don't mind, I'd like to check it out.

Blogspot = Blogger.com, which is a Google property.

Movable Type and Typepad are products by the same company, but Typepad is probably the more popular of the two for individuals because it offers free hosting. Movable Type is more for those who are running the software on a server, so it tends to be attractive to companies.

I'm a fan of Wordpress myself. Easy to use and they have paid and free versions.

Neither
I second the use for Wordpress. MT was way too hard for me to try and learn to "code." I think wordpress was much better.
