I'm writing an article about emergency evacuation from big cities and am looking for people who have, and don't have, plans for how to get out of the city in case of a Katrina or 9/11-style emergency. If you have one, what is it? If not - how come?

Thanks!

I'm sure you're aware that as Hurricane Rita advanced on Houston right after Katrina, IH-45 (a major artery north) was turned into all northbound traffic for maybe 200 miles or so. Things were still slow, I think, but it helped.

We live close to a major city and do have a plan for evacuating 2 hours east in the unlikely event that we needed to do that.

For personal evac -- in case of fire or anything -- we also have a plan to meet at the mailbox.
