| UGoGirl | Posted 2/4/2007 5:39:38 PM | show profile I consider myself very open-minded, and can be critical of others who refuse to believe anything (e.g., the existence of a God) that can't be proven scientifically. But I am very skeptical about people who say they are channelling others who lived many thousands of years ago. Anyone know anything about channelling or believe these people? My first inclination is to mistrust these people and assume it's a scam. |
| catlondon | Posted 2/5/2007 12:28:14 PM | show profile A anthro prof I once had said he would believe in channeling when the person who was doing the channeling could speak convincingly in the language of the person being channeled. So far, he hasn't come across that. |
| UGoGirl | Posted 2/6/2007 9:09:23 AM | show profile Good point. I'm very skeptical of these channelers, but I also find it hard to imagine that they could dupe good people for years and years. I recently watched "What the bleep do we know?" which included interviews of a lot of experts in quantum physics, and also Ramtha as channeled by J.Z. Knight. When I was watching it I didn't know who she/he? was, but later looked into it. She (he?) sounded reasonable enough in the movie, but I'm such a skeptic. |
| DHernandez | Posted 2/6/2007 9:53:41 AM | show profile Ha! The prof wasn't too sharp on spirituality, was he? We only speak the language we do on Earth because of the physical body in which we exist here. In spirit, we don't have such divisions. |
| Janetblueyes | Posted 2/6/2007 10:01:14 AM | show profile Excellent point Belinda. I was hesitant to jump into this topic due to the inevitable flaming, but I have seen channeling in action and it is mind-blowing. I am somewhat psychic myself, (I posted back in October about ghosts--which got a great response here on the board), but do not have channeling abilities. I am clairaudient though. I do believe some have the power to channel. There are of course many frauds though. There is so much more going on the universe than we are aware of. Bless those who truly have the gift and do not use it for exploitation. |
| theroaringgirl | Posted 2/6/2007 7:40:47 PM | show profile Ramtha? J.Z. Knight is a scam. She went to court to prevent anyone else from "channeling" Ramtha? she won. She is the sole proprietor of Ramtha? inc.. Fromthe first time I felt my bullshit meter go off the scale to the day I saw the smirk on her face while 'channeling' Ramtha? I felt she was a fraud. |
| mailbag | Posted 2/7/2007 8:58:09 AM | show profile | email poster I watched that doco too Ugo and found the discussion intriguing esp for the use of drugs to alter the mind. Like others, I also looked up Ramtha after watching and found the info calling her a scam. What if she is? What if she isn't? What if her vision is actually helping others overcome what 'they' need to make their lives better? What if such a film (and discussion) was part of normal secondary education? What if these issues were allowed in a classroom and applied to developing minds in the process of maturation? Would we all at least be better for having experienced different ways of thinking at an early age? Personally - I think understanding how the mind works is far more important than who discovered the earth was round. The implication of understanding (by itself) opens one up for more experiences as s/he becomes an active adult. |
| UGoGirl | Posted 2/8/2007 8:46:39 AM | show profile I don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater, I think there's a lot there and mostly so much we don't really understand about human consciousness. And maybe there are people who can "channel" tohers. Ramtha may be helping people to feel better about their lives, but to me it smacks of a money-making gig. If this is all being done to further humankind, why charge so much? And why suggest people need to attend two events a year to "stay current"? I suspect most people attending these workshops don't easily have $1,500 of disposable income to hand off to her/him. J.Z. Knight probably has a lot of fantastic ideas, is an intelligent woman. Why not stand on her own, instead of behind Ramtha? *** People from all over the world have visited Ramtha's School of Enlightenment, an 80-acre ranch just outside Yelm's city limits. The private spiritual academy boasts about 3,000 students, who are required to attend at least two events each year to stay "current." JZ Knight, the school's founder, recently revamped the school's "beginning retreats," which cost about $750 and are open to the public. The sessions have been condensed to three and a half days, down from eight, and most will be offered on weekends so that more working students can attend, school officials say. http://www.theolympian.com/112/story/50047.html |
| SpinDr810 | Posted 3/29/2007 11:30:00 PM | show profile You all should look into Esther and Jerry Hicks, and the being Abraham that she channels. Really interesting---- Read the book Ask and It is Given. Some seems far out, but some seems very possible. Each person has to decide for themself. |
| Katie | Posted 3/30/2007 11:36:41 AM | show profile | email poster Friends of mine, successful professionals, sold everything they had and jumped on the Ramtha bandwagon. They stayed for several months, came back and wouldn't talk about it for the most part. Interesting. Esther and Jerry Hicks books rocks in my opinion. As part of the "I Am," keeping the channels of positive thinking open draws positive. I am, I have, works better than I can't, I need, I want...What you think, so you are. |
