| brother-trucker | Posted 2/5/2007 8:27:38 PM | show profile http://blog.washingtonpost.com/earlywarning/2007/01/the_troops_also_need_to_suppor.html How on earth could NBC News, or any news organization on the planet, employ someone like this as a MILITARY ANALYST? American troops are "mercenaries?" Sending care packages to our soldiers is "obscene?" Instead, NBC released a pathetic statement saying that this is not their responsibility because Bill Arkin wrote this smear against U.S. troops on a WashingtonPost.com blog. Why on earth wouldn't they simply say "William Arkin's comments are reprehensible and he is no longer employed by NBC News." Then, 99.9% of the public would applaud NBC and the matter would be closed. Equally shameful and pathetic is the response by TVNewser's Brian Stelter, which came straight out of the NBC playbook. As usual, his response was predictable, obvious...oh yeah, and it blew up in his face. Hours before the segment aired, Stelter posted a rebuttal to the segment, using the flawed, phony argument that NBC News bears no responsibility when one of its employees makes public slurs against the military, which he is paid to analyze. A few hours later, an interview with Arkin aired on The O'Reilly Factor. Oh no!!! Guess what Arkin was wearing? AN NBC NEWS HAT!!! I understand this has become part of the Fox vs. NBC thing and will get lumped in with the O'Reilly-Olbermann mess too. But anyone with an interest in TV news and especially journalists still need to condemn William Arkin and demand that someone like this not step in the halls of any news organization, let alone actually analyzing the military. That column proves beyond any reasonable doubt that he hates the U.S. military and that's shameful. I am confident that people like Tim Russert, who is a responsible and respectable journalist, will condemn this slime of our forces, who volunteered to defend this country and are doing their job under extraordinary pressure that few of us could ever understand. Anyone who defends William Arkin or NBC's stonewalling of journalistic ethics should apologize. Brian Stelter already defended the latter, so the words "I'm sorry" should appear from him first. |
| rickcox71 | Posted 2/5/2007 9:13:42 PM | show profile TRAITOR MR ARKIN APPEARS TO BE A DESPICABLE AMERICAN. ANYONE WHO WRITES SUCH CRAP SHOULD NOT BE EMPLOYED BY ANY RESPECTABLE NEWS ORGANIZATION. FURTHERMORE, IT WAS REPORTED IN HIS BOOK, THAT HE PUBLISHED TOP SECRET CODES. IF TRUE, HE SHOULD BE TRIED FOR TREASON. I HAD TO REGISTER TO POST ON THIS SITE, BUT I WILL NEVER LISTEN TO NBC NEWS AGAIN UNLESS HE IS DENOUNCED AND FIRED BY NBC. THANK YOU RICK COX INDIANA |
| brother-trucker | Posted 2/5/2007 9:22:08 PM | show profile Oh and here is how TVNewser defended NBC employing this disgusting propagandist, in case he 'amends' his comments or takes them down altogether. > Bill O'Reilly is really losing it. He's promoting an "expose" of NBC's "liberal agenda" tonight, but the comments he's so upset about -- made by NBC military analyst William Arkin -- were published on the Washington Post's Web site, not broadcast by NBC. It should be a fun Factor tonight... |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/5/2007 10:23:55 PM | show profile Try this - the US has a secret army of 20,000 merceneries in Iraq making ten times the wages of military soldiers. This is what they are talking about. This isn't sliming the troops this is ripping off the American public. One of their helicopters was shot down the other day. |
| Lvadamson | Posted 2/5/2007 11:17:54 PM | show profile | email poster Arkin Smarkin My sons have both served in Iraq and are still active in the Marines. They are children that were forced to be men. They joined in high school after 9-11 because they honor their country. They watched their friends get killed or lose limbs while they fought for our freedom. They LOVE their country. Arkin, you are full of hate and deserve what is coming to you. | jerry1934 | Posted 2/5/2007 11:29:40 PM | show profile | email poster Bill Arkin Not only should NBC and The Washinton Post fire this hate munger but he should be hung by his balls. However, our brave military that fought to give this ugly man his right to say the eveil things he has said about the military. |
| yeahboyeeee | Posted 2/5/2007 11:35:58 PM | show profile hey watched their friends get killed or lose limbs while they fought for our freedom. They aren't fighting in Iraq for our freedom, the USA is already free. |
| Lvadamson | Posted 2/5/2007 11:45:15 PM | show profile freedom Hey Yeah Freedom from Terrorism, does that count? I'll bet you don't have children. |
| yeahboyeeee | Posted 2/5/2007 11:58:24 PM | show profile Freedom from Terrorism, does that count? Yeah, that's fine. I just hear the freedom line a lot... as if we would be speaking Arabic if we didn't act in Iraq. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/6/2007 7:30:05 AM | show profile What is this - an echo chamber. I suspect this is the same person running a scam on this board with multiple email addresses. These posts are laughable! |
| brad13 | Posted 2/6/2007 1:48:15 PM | show profile fire Arkin I say fire Arkin. And I say hire me. I've got a few military opinions I'd like to share, for money preferably. And my second ex-wife was a Greenpeace member. I think it's my moment. |
| graywolf | Posted 2/6/2007 2:54:03 PM | show profile Will NBC Fire William Arkin Why should NBC fire Arkin? He (like John Kerry) speaks for the MSM. Contempt for the military and hatred of America is where they (and many of the Dems) are at. Remember the MSM reaction after 9/11 when the FOX News people started wearing the flag lapel- pins? Remember Mike Wallace saying (on PBS) that he was a "journalist first."? |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/6/2007 3:02:21 PM | show profile Yes, it's Republicans who hate our men and women in uniform. They were the ones to sacrifice a nation's young for a lie. It makes them feel all warm inside everytime a roadside bomb goes off knowing they were the ones who started this conflict and they are the ones to prolong the agony and loss. |
| brother-trucker | Posted 2/6/2007 3:22:30 PM | show profile "It makes them feel all warm inside everytime a roadside bomb goes off..." This is vile and disgusting for anyone to say. |
| graywolf | Posted 2/6/2007 3:37:00 PM | show profile Will NBC Fire William Arkin? Jaxxreport - Kerry buttboy and friend of Al Qaida. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/6/2007 3:47:22 PM | show profile "It makes them feel all warm inside everytime a roadside bomb goes off..." 'This is vile and disgusting for anyone to say.' If that makes you feel so bad why aren't holding Bush and Cheney accountable rather than messing with those who brought you the truth. Be a man and march up to the White House and tell the little man what you think of this horrible war. Tell them you want everyone of them held accountable and to face and investigation and trial for lying and sending young people into conflict based on lies and deception. |
| keltoi | Posted 2/6/2007 11:59:59 PM | show profile Funny thing about Fox, wolf. Fox wasn't being patriotic by wrapping themselves in the flag; it was using the American flag to score promotional points with gullible viewers; it was part of their advertising. Using the American flag in advertising is a violation of the Flag Code of the United States. Far from being patriotic, those hypocrites were using the flag to score ratings points. Just like Bush. That's pretty despicable. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/7/2007 8:12:38 AM | show profile keltoi - you're dead on. Watched Clint Eastwood's - Flags of Our Fathers last night and it was a most humbling experience. Both films are classic. It just brought to mind how horrible FOX News, Bush and company - Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and everyone of those lying creeps have used patriotism to sell themselves and the product of war. Jail would be to good for these low lives. |
| brad13 | Posted 2/7/2007 12:22:52 PM | show profile laugh now boy there is such disrespect for the Fox news viewer in this place. keep laughing at the poor, easily-conned viewers and comfort yourselves all day long with delusions of their presumed idiocy. it's much more likely that a lot of intelligent people have developed the capacity to clearly examine and reject much of what comes at them from the liberal media establishment in this nation, and are more comfortable with the difference they find on Fox News. Their analysis shows and panels are horribly conservative-leaning, but Fox News' hard news coverage is nothing short of excellent, and it features the missing ingredient that most other news networks don't use: fairness. You all laugh because you think Fox News horribly kisses up to the Republican party, but the fact is that they simply give the GOP the benefit of the doubt and do an even-handed news coverage, and that benefit of the doubt for the 'evil' GOP is the supreme queen-mother of sins that you won't forgive, much less indulge in yourselves. Stick that in your world-view template and spin awhile. |
| keltoi2 | Posted 2/7/2007 12:45:43 PM | show profile Yes, yes, brad, keep on repeating the "fair and balanced" height of hypocrisy mantra of the easily duped. You have found a cable channel that tells you exactly what you want to hear and reaffirms all of your comfortable world views, whatever the reality. Enjoy. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/7/2007 1:19:20 PM | show profile Brad - I know you're trying to make a civil argument in behalf of FOX News but it just doesn't register. There is nothing honest about that newtwork. They marched us into war based on lies. Even with evidence of the contrary they still hide behind the soldiers. They are cowards of the lowest esteem. |
| ashton011 | Posted 2/7/2007 4:19:04 PM | show profile jazzreport & keltoi2, maybe it's you two who have been "duped" in your own comfortable worldview by the far left coverage of most news organizations. What were the "lies" that led us into war? Oh, wait a minute, it was the non-existant weapons of mass destruction. Just because every bit of intelligence said they were there it's obvious that George Bush made it all up and he must have somehow changed the intelligence. And the Bush administration somehow hypnotized everyone, including Bill Clinton and many in the United Nations, into believing they were there. It amazes me that the democrats/liberals are supposed to be such "tolerant" people, accepting of other ideas and open to all lines of thinking. And yet William Arkin's article (and your responses) make it clear that you are tolerant and open as long as everyone agrees with you. If not then the ANGER appears. |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/7/2007 4:53:46 PM | show profile ashton - you're pets lied - lied - lied and are still lying! This is something to be truly proud of. The American public were duped but know the difference now. That's why all of those reptiles were turfed from office. |
| ashton011 | Posted 2/7/2007 5:09:46 PM | show profile jazzercize, you can scream about the "lies" from now until Kingdom come, but where is the proof (or even a shred of evidence) that anyone intentionally misled anyone to purposely start a war? And no liberal ever seems to want to answer why Bill Clinton also believed there were weapons of mass destruction. Did he lie too? Apparently so. And you also seem to forget that Saddam broke the UN resolutions SEVENTEEN times, and each of those SEVENTEEN times gave the United States the authority to remove him from power. Do you have anything intelligent to say about that? Or are you going to scream LIES again? |
| Iron Eagle | Posted 2/7/2007 5:20:33 PM | show profile You can't be serious! Colin Powell lied in front of the UN. Have you been following the Scooter Libby trial? Another liar! How far do you want me to go? This stretches for miles. You've got to be a bad joke. |
