I'm a stringer for Glamour, and I'm looking for photos of women who had to wear awful bridesmaid dresses! If you were a bridesmaid in a wedding (going as far back as the 80s) and had to wear a hideous dress, please email me a photo of you from the event wearing your dress. The photo needs to be high-res (i.e. 300 dpi, taken with a digital camera and not re-sized), and I'm looking for pictures from women who are now between the ages of 20 and 40. Along with your photo, tell me in a couple sentences why you think the dress was so bad! Also, please include you full name, age, town, email address and phone number (for fact-checking). Email me at natashachilingerian@gmail.com. My deadline is noon (EST) on Monday, March 19.

Oh, that is going to be hysterical! I went to a party once where attendees were asked to don former wedding attire. There were some really funny ones. A hail storm of ruffly fushia and teal with a healthy mix of seafoam chiffon.

I'll email some friends of mine who pop into mind and see if they'll bite.

I've been in three weddings and only one had upsetting dresses. They were floorlength black ballroom-type dresses, and I suppose by bridesmaid standards it wasn't that bad. It still sucked, especially since the bride had been in my wedding and I let the three of them choose the gowns together and they looked really lovely.

a related story
At my old office we had a "secret santa" gift exchange. One of our co-workers wrapped up an old bridesmade dress for her gift. It was a hideous forest green with white lace on the collar, long sleaves and a train.

A big guy from our IT department, who had played football in college, picked it from the pile.

It still makes me laugh.

For some reason everyone wants to have a pirate-themed wedding now. Maybe you should track down the poor bridesmaids that had to wear some type of pirate-related get-up. I know there's got to be some out there!

P.S. How does one become a Glamour stringer? Inquiring minds wanna know...

Pirate theme???? I have never heard of that one, but would love to see pictures of that.

I had a friend a Cinderella-themed wedding that was at Disneyland. They even rented the pumpkin carriagee and wore the big, blue, gooey looking Disney version dress.
I thought that made them a little off the rocker, but theme weddings are intriguing.

That would make a great Glamour article: Theme wedding details. I wonder what motivates people to forego tradition and have a little fun with it.

My niece, 26, wears a brace on her leg because she had cancer and her foot flops. A beautiful girl, she was invited to be in her friend's wedding. THe dresses had a slit in the right side. My niece asked if she could have hers made to have a slit in the left side to hide her brace -- and the bride said no, she wanted all the girls dresses to look the same.

Unbelievable!

So, she was still gorgeous, brace and all, but stilll!!!!

Nothing personal, but
More groundbreaking journalism from the pink ghetto! Now I see why my pitch on the new rape shield laws was rejected...

Not meant for the writer of this story--I'm sure it'll be a good fun read -- but you gals wonder why you never get nominated for National Magazine Awards(just announced) in any other category except the occassional GE (and your ed chief as ASME pres helps there) and Personal Service? Meanwhile, Esquire bloats up on the awards for feature writing, reporting, essay and criticism, etc?
Ever see a story in Esquire on "Ugly Ties My Wife Bought For Me?"
Bitchy post? Yeah maybe. But if I hear one more PG editor bitching about the unfairness of the ASMEs, well, I'll tear my ugly bridesmaids dress to shreds...

writesonwater: sadly, this is so typical of brides that are like those that frequent theknot.com. There you'll find brides asking whether they should drop their sisters, friends and other family members from their crew of bridesmaids because they're overweight, pregnant or have visible tattoos. It's disgusting.

Everyone: I haven't received any pictures yet of girls wearing bad bridesmaid dresses...please send some my way if you have them! All the dresses/weddings you've described sound like they'd fit the assignment. My email address is above. Thanks!

Natasha:
I did send a blast to people I know who will be likely candidates. I'm sorry they haven't gotten back to you. I think it's a fabulous story idea and will be fun to read.

I hope you get some pics by your deadline.

Hope your article worked out. My niece decided to opt out; her friend would be mortified, she said. In her words, "and she's really a nice girl when she's not getting married." ;)
