| mailbag | Posted 4/9/2007 4:03:55 PM | show profile | email poster France's presidential race began today. Twelve candidates vie for the presidential palace. ALL candidates are provided 45-min of air time to speak their platform... Voters cast their first say on (SUNDAY) 22 April. If no one gets +50% of the vote the two most popular candidates face a run-off on (SUNDAY) 6 May. Sounds productive to me... Our race started two years before the election, which means some will have had two years to take your money in the form of donations. What happens to all that money anyway when the candidate doesn't end up as one-of-only two party choices? (Why are we so backwards?) |
| Mag Girl | Posted 4/9/2007 4:18:04 PM | show profile I wish we did it that way. But they also have the burden of collecting all those signatures of government officials in order to run. That could really work against you here in the US depending on what party was in power generally at the time- would make our two-party system turn into a virtually one-party one perhaps. It will be interesting to see how Ms. Royal fares, given her hype of the past year. |

| mailbag | Posted 4/9/2007 9:12:37 PM | show profile | email poster I haven't followed this as much as the previous. At that time the key was keeping La Pen out. Now... I'm not sure. I think he has softened a bit, and immigration is a hot topic. Ms. Royal shows promise. |
| UGoGirl | Posted 4/9/2007 10:07:24 PM | show profile It's bound to result in a better outcome than our elections here in 2000 and 2004. But then again, randomly pulling a name out of a hat would've resulted in a better outcome. |
| Mag Girl | Posted 4/23/2007 11:15:19 AM | show profile So, mailbag- who do you think is going to win this one? No surprise to me in who were selected for the runoff. I am guessing Royal will win. |
| mailbag | Posted 4/23/2007 8:02:43 PM | show profile | email poster Ok... I'll put my vote with Royal as well. I have to take a poll with my french friends and see who they voted for. :-) |
