That book that came out about 10 years ago telling how women should behave in dating in order to find the man of their dreams? For Glamour magazine, I'm looking for women ages 20 to 40 who followed The Rules. This can mean you bought the book, read it carefully and adhered to the rules, or maybe even joined a discussion group with other Rules women. Glamour wants to know how The Rules worked for you. I'd like some anecdotes -- some positive (you followed The Rules to the letter and married the man of your dreams), some negative (you tried The Rules and had horrible dating luck, so you tossed them out the window, broke every one, and found the perfect guy.) For your information, and to refresh everyone's memories, some of The Rules include: * Show up to parties, dances and social events even if you do not feel like it. * In an office romance, do not email him back every time he emails you unless it is business related * If you are in a long-distance relationship, he must visit you at least three times before you visit him. * When considering whether to use personal ads or other dating services, you should place the ad and let men respond to you. *Close the deal -- Rules women do not date men for more than two years If you followed the rules and can share the effects with me, please send me an anecdote, along with your full name, age, town, phone number and e-mail for fact-checking. I need them by Monday, April 23 at 11am central time. If you have a legitimate response, please E-MAIL me at: natashachilingerian@gmail.com. Thanks! |
| skleinman1 | Posted 4/19/2007 3:19:26 PM | show profile Don't have personal tales to tell, but you should read the last short story in Melissa Bank's "Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing." It's a about a woman who follows the rules (chief among them, don't be too "available,) and then the guy dumps her because she's a game-player. Might make an interestign throw-away line in yoru story. Also, if you haven't already done so, google the authors; at least one of them is divorced now. |
| Metro Writer | Posted 4/19/2007 6:16:41 PM | show profile Someone told me about a soon to be self-published book called Catch That Tiger, about women who tossed out the rules with the trash. I caught my tiger years ago and don't regret having made the first moves. |
