| BlueSparkler | Posted 4/25/2007 2:51:46 PM | show profile I've just begun reviewing spas. I have some appointments coming up that are comped by the spas themselves. When I tip the person performing the service, should I turn I request reimbursement from the magazine? Thanks. |
| XoXoXO12 | Posted 4/25/2007 6:55:06 PM | show profile Tip the person doing the service, they're losing money by performing a "free" service on you where they could be working on a paying customer instead. |
| GG | Posted 4/25/2007 7:34:16 PM | show profile tipping 1) Ask the publicist if the tip is included in the comp (sometimes it is, somethings it is not) -- explain that you just want to make sure the service provider is covered one way or another. 2) If not, clear with your editor ahead of time that the tip will be reimbursed. 3) If not, gratuities are a tax-deductible expense, so get receipts. |
| maphop | Posted 4/26/2007 9:47:21 AM | show profile I've never expensed to a publication a service tip for a massage or a private yoga session even when the service was done as part of a story. I DO, however, included it under "travel and entertainment" in my business deductions at the end of the year. |
| BlueSparkler | Posted 4/26/2007 11:19:21 AM | show profile thanks! thanks, all. xoxo: don't worry, of COURSE I'd tip; the question was whether to expense that back to the magazine. maphop: my instinct is to do it the way you do. I somehow don't feel right expensing it but am going to be tipping over a hundred dollars total this week. |
