Topic: Reasonable rates for freelance B2B mags?

These were experienced business writers who understood the B2B magazine market and readership. Now that I'm looking for freelance opportunities, I've been reviewing freelance sites such as Elance and Sologig for news and article writer opportunities. I'm finding the budgeted rates for these projects to be an average of $250 or much less for a feature and $150 or less for a SERIES of shorter, 500-600 word articles (either for the Web or for pint). Are these low rates now the going rate for writers (particularly in the B2B sector)? I saw one ad quoting a rate of $2-$10 for an article!! This seems unbelievable to me. It's less than minimum wage when you figure it on a per hour rate. Are there any sites you know of for freelance writers that offer more reasonable rates? |
