I'm pulling together a budget for travel to an event to where I will be arranging media interviews, etc. I don't work on retainer, but charge hourly. With this being said do you charge a day rate or special hourly rate for those 2-3 days you'll be attending the event and working? If you recommend a day rate - what's comparable? Thanks!

Well, I'd charge my usual hourly rate for the hours worked (including travel time) plus actual expenses...airfare or appropriate transportation costs, lodging (if overnight) and meals.

Frankly, I don't work on an hourly basis but instead charge flat rates for days worked out of office (sometimes that's a trade show, sometimes a strategy session, sometimes a training session, etc.) and OOP. I personally charge $900/day for myself, $600/day for one of the more junior folks that work on an account. That's in addition to OOP.
