| scribeindc | Posted 5/24/2007 6:44:20 PM | show profile Best DC magazine I'm rooting for DC Modern Luxury. |
| redforgreen | Posted 5/25/2007 2:08:19 PM | show profile hi Scribe--why Modern Luxury Just curious, why? |
| cre8intime | Posted 5/25/2007 3:16:12 PM | show profile | email poster Best DC Glossy I'm voting for Washingtonian - mostly because of their Best Of or Complete List issues. I still have their issue from 05 that listed all of the museums in DC. It's a great resource. The challange I have with really getting into it, though, is that it's very high end. We don't all live on Capital Hill. The writing can be a bit dry as well. You can tell they are writing for the 6 figure income. |
| scribeindc | Posted 5/26/2007 4:12:58 PM | show profile Best DC magazine Hi Timetogo, I actually think that DC magazine employs better writers than the Washingtonian, for example. They have a great team of editors and writers, and I don't like the fact that the Washingtonian constantly banks on their "Best Of" lists to fill up an issue. Actually, my favorite all-time DC publication is the City Paper, which features superb writing, but as far as glossies go, I'll have to stick with DC magazine. |
| cre8intime | Posted 6/5/2007 1:08:42 AM | show profile | email poster DC Mags Actually I agree with you on the CityPaper - that is a vrey interesting read - much more down to earth. And the personal section in the back - you could write a dozen movies around the characters that wrote those! |
| DCMagWriter | Posted 6/12/2007 11:29:06 AM | show profile Another vote for ModLux Their writers are better, more plugged in, hipper. Art direction is edgy, which we need here desperately. Although I still miss the light, fun vibe that DC STYLE brought to the mix. Washingtonian is trying, but their best of issues, cheap eats, etc are getting tired and worn. They need to stop resting on their laurels and start having fun. |
| lizardd | Posted 6/29/2007 11:56:54 AM | show profile Capitol File is awful -- rag. Washingtonian and City Paper win. |
| mikegenki3 | Posted 7/13/2007 4:51:22 PM | show profile | email poster What about WL? Throw Washington Life Magazine into the mix. It's stepping up. Monthly. Glossy. DC and Cap file are repurposed "McMagazines" -- same fashion and majority of content repackaged through all thier titles in ny, la, boston, aspen, or whereever they can make a buck. I prefer "real" washington magazines like WL and Washingtonian that use all local writers, editors, photags, stylists, designers, creatives, etc. Washington doesn't need lead designers and editorial directors in NY and LA telling us what's cool. We can do it ourselves. Build the creative community here. That's what the city needs. |
