Seeking workshop-experienced and/or published Personal Essayists and Memoirists to join an established writers group in Manhattan. The purpose of the group is support/critique/sounding board/workshop.

Please attach a seven to ten page essay or memoir sample, and a professional biography not to exceed two double-spaced pages.

The two part application consists of a memoir chapter or personal/narrative essay sample (2500 word limit) which represents your best work in our group's format ( Courier New, 12pt, double-spaced, 1" margins on all four sides, and continuous line numbers), attached as an RTF or PDF and answers to these questions:

1. Who are you? Please provide a personal and/or professional biography, including age, and tell us about your educational background and workshop experiences.
2. What are your personal and professional goals as a writer?
3. Have you been a member of a writing group before? If so, list elements that worked and which areas that could have been improved?
4. What are your realistic expectations in applying to a writers' group/workshop?
5. How would you handle a harsh critique?
6. Do you feel you have enough time? If not, what would give you that feeling? How much has your attitude toward time changed as you've aged?
7. List several writers that you admire and whose work has been important to you as a reader and your growth as a writer.

Seeking writers who are able and willing to meet bi-weekly on Saturday afternoons.

Looking for a writers who can commit for one year.

There are currently two female writers and three male writers, all but one with an agent. So the pressure's on for the holdout. One of our female writers will be published this September/October.

WHY
do the writers have to be female?
MorningsideWriters Posted – 5/25/2007 11:38:49 PM | show profile | email poster
Group Limit Is Six --
Manhattan Matt,

The writer (s) need not be female. There are currently two male writers, and two female writers.

It's been more difficult to find and recruit female writers.

If you're interested in applying to the group, please do so by all means : nycurbaneditor@gmail.com

Morningside-what time do you usually meet on Sat afternoons? I was thinking of applying but have a prior commitment from 12:30-2pm. Thanks!

Biweekly on Saturdays -- 3 p.m.
Nellie Bly,

We meet every two Saturdays on the Upper West Side, low 100's, at various coffee shops, cafés, or lounges, 3 p.m. to approximately 5 or 5:30 p.m. if the session is intense, or we've ordered food with our eyes, not our appetites.

We look forward to your application should the schedule work with current commitments.

Application Process Ending Soon
If any of you are still interested in applying to the group, I would encourage you to submit your biography and writing sample by this weekend.

As of this posting, there are two male writers, and two female writers. Ideally we are looking to round out the group with one female and one male, but it's not set in stone.
