Topic: DO THESE ONLINE JOURNALS PAY?

| jjonas333 | Posted 5/23/2007 11:10:19 AM | show profile | email poster Ive been a freelance journalist for many years--have ample clips, both for a national news service and lately, for local online journals. Have wanted to write for places like Alternet and TomPaine but their submission pages dont mention anything about paying for articles, and they want you to submit an article first before anything else. Does anyone know the answer? |
| mark_klempner | Posted 6/20/2007 12:24:15 PM | show profile | email poster not usually Most of these leftist internet hotspots do NOT pay. I write for HuffingtonPost.com, one of the biggest, and they don't pay--and least they don't pay me. I wonder if Bill Moyers or Jamie Leigh Curtis get a different deal, though. I've had one of my pieces show up on Commondreams.org and they never asked my permission, let alone offered me money. I was glad they liked my stuff though. The only place I've been published online that pays is a "social justice and faith" ezine out of Toronto called The Social Edge (www.thesocialedge.com). They pay modestly, so if you're doing something leftist yet with a progressive spiritual/religious dimension, email the editor. Other online places that pay are The Nation, The Progressive, Mother Jones, and In These Times. And, of course, Salon. Good luck. |
| jjonas333 | Posted 8/21/2007 2:24:20 PM | show profile | email poster thanks Your info was v. helpful. As a matter of fact, Commondreams ran a piece of mine some time ago without my permission but since i was working for a wire service they could have been a subscribing member (though I doubt it). Thanks! |
