| sb_barnes | Posted 5/24/2007 7:50:19 AM | show profile Hi! I'm creating a clip report for a client and would like to include the value of the media coverage we've received. Does anyone have a formula? I know it's not exact, but I want to give an estimate. Thanks in advance for your help! |
| maphop | Posted 5/24/2007 8:44:54 AM | show profile A formula? Value is based on space criteria, not on a forumala that I'm aware of. Perhaps you're asking a question that I'm not quite getting. You want to offer a client a space value number, right? |
| sb_barnes | Posted 5/24/2007 12:21:43 PM | show profile Yes, I want to give value of editorial placement. For instance, a 10-inch story with photo - how would I determine what the value of that placement is? Thanks! |
| linjohn | Posted 5/24/2007 12:31:25 PM | show profile Back when I first started, we used to include an "ad value" which you can find in Bacons. I think. I stopped doing that a long time ago, though, because there really is no way to put a value on an editorial mention in the same way you can an ad. Sure, you can use a quarter page ad rate to put alongside your quarter page placement, but what does that say about the value of your time spent pitching, following up, etc. Now I just include the circulation rate of the publication, which you can also find in Bacons. |
| sb_barnes | Posted 5/24/2007 1:31:47 PM | show profile Thanks, Linjohn. That's what I do, too, is include the circulation. The client isn't very familiar with PR, and even with more than 30 hits, aren't quite sure that's good, so I'm just trying to make them understand a bit more. Thanks! |
| ChicaMadrid | Posted 5/24/2007 3:44:46 PM | show profile My first job out of college 8 years ago, we did the ad rate, too. In the agency setting, which I left 3 years ago, we used to do circulation multiplied by 1.5 to get the impressions. |
