| cdnpublicist | Posted 5/27/2007 7:31:03 AM | show profile | email poster I am a Canadian book publicist currently making a very modest salary. As I am single, I am starting to think very seriously about my financial future (I am in my late twenties). I am worried that book publicity is not going to allow me to ever break-free of the month-to-month grind and I am searching for advice on what to do next. I have explored editorial and writing and sadly the career prospects in those fields are much the same as in publicity -- low pay and few opportunities. Are there any other *former* publicists out there who have managed to stay in the arts and either somehow make it *pay* or who have moved on to other career fields without having to completely start over education-wise (I fear my book publicist skills are too limited to move into, for instance, the business sector -- my only education is a BA and post-grad publishing certificate)...Any thoughts on this are really appreciated. While I know a lot of people in the industry, I know very few people who were *once publicists*.... Thanks! |
