I have been publishing beauty and fashion-related reviews for more than 9 years now. My list of pr and publicity contacts is large and updated every couple of weeks. Since I am corresponding with hundreds of contacts at a time each month to request products and so forth, I do not use the telephone--I send emails. Some contacts do do let me know if they're changing agencies or companies, but for the most part, the only way I can get a handle on who has left is when I get an email comes back as undeliverable. If the person worked for a pr agency, it's easy to find out who is the new replacement, but when it's a large company, it's virtually impossible to track down the right person or place. For example, I've been trying to track down a new contact for one of the companies purchased by L'Oreal...but the web site for the company doesn't list contacts.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Any suggestions? And, for those of you in PR...please do editors a favor and shoot off an email when you leave. We want to wish you success & happiness in whatever you do next, anyway, and it will make our jobs so much easier!

Almost every large company I deal with has a PR or press relations department. If you call the main company number and ask for one of these departments, I'd think you'd be able to find out the person who handles your type of requests pretty easily.
