I have been reading the Express for the past few years, and aside from a couple of their in-house staff writers who are pretty good, the rest of their freelancers are awful. Where are they finding these people? It's so obvious that they are not professional writers, but newbies with no writing experience whatsoever. I can't figure out what the stafff editors are thinking. It's embarassing for the publication.

Express needs new freelance writers
I agree with you. The writing stinks. It's obvious that some of their staff editors/writers are talented, particularly in the Entertainment section, but the rest stink.Whoknows where they're finding these no-talent, no-experience people to contribute freelance material for them. You would think that they would more keen on hiring people with lots of experience.

Love Lauren Paige Kirby and Jennifer Barger
While much of the writing isn't very good, the gals who write the product/style pieces are hilarious. I always get a good chuckle from their sassy writing on may way to work, and they tell it like it is when it comes to products.

I agree that Kirby and Barger are talented as are a few of the folks on the Entertainment side. But I think these are all full-time staff. The freelancers these editors hire are awful. They need to hire a spankin' new Features Editor whose job is to hire experienced, savvy journalists and writers with loads of experience, and get rid of these other folks who sound like they just graduated from college and having been writing for idiotic websites and blogs.
