Hello
I?m pitching a 5-minute video spot elaborating on a print piece to a women?s fashion magazine website. Does anyone know the going rate ? footage per minute, or per finished piece ? for video? And is travel always / sometimes / never covered?

Many thanks

Soph

I'm the web editor for a mag's site and while we haven't bought any videos as print companions, we recently commissioned 3 finished (edited, with our logo and transitions) segments that were about 4 minutes each from a freelance videographer for $800.

Not quite sure how other pubs do it, since video is fairly new for our company, but that might be a start.

It really depends on the production values of what you decide to do--a talking head against a neutral background with a one person crew in a conference room? Or something more complex with a full crew? Location shooting where you'll need to find local crews? Editing with lots of graphics and effects? Music? VO? Basically, there is no "going rate." There's "this is how much money we have-what can you do for us?" I've worked on 5:00 shorts that cost $15,000 or $20,000 as well as your basic talking head roll-in for around $600 or $700. Like the previous poster mentioned, an independent production company is nearly always hired to produce these types of things because of the variables.
