| webtastic | Posted 6/26/2007 10:47:59 AM | show profile | email poster I have worked for a major media outlet's Web site for three years or so as producer and editor. I have been searching for a new job to take the next step in my career for about a month now and have a couple interviews setup already, but I was just contacted by a staffing agency that found my resume on the Web and wants to setup a meeting. Has anyone heard of or worked with Forrest Solutions (forrestsolutions.com)? Do they actually place media professionals or is there going to be some "So, what do you know about spreadsheets?" kind of gig? |
| GA>ME | Posted 6/28/2007 12:57:04 AM | show profile don't those type of places charge you a ton of money if they can land you a job? I've heard upwards of 1/3 of a year's salary. |
| neugirl | Posted 6/28/2007 9:36:45 AM | show profile Like all temp agencies, they will definitely offer you gigs that are not necessarily related to your field. Thats standard practice for most temp agencies. |
| foodlit | Posted 6/28/2007 11:34:41 AM | show profile I'm not familiar with them, but took a quick look at their web site and they are not just a temp agency, they do direct placement and list quite a few media companies as clients, so it might be worth checking out. Also, as an fyi, staffing agencies do NOT charge fees to the candidates, if they do it's a scam. Fees are always paid by the hiring company. |
| crabandsquid | Posted 7/5/2007 1:15:13 PM | show profile I actually had an interview at Forrest when I was starting out and found that the representative who contacted me "lured" me to the interview by claiming there was a proofreading position that I was perfect for. When I arrived at the interview and filled out the mountains of paperwork, etc. I found that the proofreading position was actually an admin assist position, and that the company did not actually receive as many proofreading assignments as I had originally been led to believe. In short, don't expect too much, but depending on how hard up you are, don't close it off as a possibility. Good luck! |
| mayoress | Posted 7/18/2007 1:49:51 PM | show profile Yes... I use them, they got me a decent interview before. And no, temp agencies do not charge you, they charge the employer. They were very nice but won't do narrow searches for specific jobs because come on, it's all about the money. |
| tinat | Posted 7/19/2007 12:54:01 AM | show profile RUN My friend worked for Forrest and had nothing but horrible things to say. Really bad place. Awful people. |
| webtastic | Posted 7/24/2007 2:39:38 AM | show profile BTW, it was a dead end. They mostly had assistant-type jobs and didn't really seem to care very much. They just seem to be in the business of plugging holes willy nilly. Seems like it might be a good place to go for temp work, though. |
