Hi everyone -

Now that I've been admitted to the University of Chicago's (six-course) Integrated Marketing certificate program, I'm weighing the pros and cons of actually pursuing the certificate.

I want my freelance content copywriting business off the ground in the next year. (Content copy meaning newsletters, press releases, websites, white papers, and other material that's promotional on some level but not quite ad copy) I've already written for two minor corporations, so a beginner's portfolio isn't an issue. However, I imagine that future clients might be more interested in my services if I can discuss projects as a writer and a marketing consultant - with the certificate to back up my claims. On the other hand, I've noticed that many freelance writers eschew graduate education, and I don't want to take out $4,000 in student loans for a program that I only "imagine" will make a difference.

Are any of you familiar with the Integrated Marketing certificate at U of C, or similar Masters programs at Northwestern and other colleges/universities? I would much appreciate any feedback that you can offer on their value for my business.
