Topic: How much to charge for podcast scripts?

| bonvivant | Posted 7/5/2007 9:51:23 AM | show profile | email poster I researched and wrote questions for a series of podcasts. I spent several hours on conference calls setting up the series and then I wrote 20 individualized sets of questions. How do I charge for this? What is the going hourly rate? Or should I just charge by the project? Any advice? This is my first podcast experience. Someone else recorded and edited the interviews. |
| MDiskin | Posted 7/5/2007 1:27:17 PM | show profile | email poster I'm writing a single podcast now and my pay is $200 for 5 minutes, or about 1000 words. This seems very low to me, but it was the high end of the range I was offered. I'm taking it, but am not sure if I want to continue at that rate. I tried to do some research but any amount of googling "what to charge" and "podcast" turns up info on what to charge listeners. Is there an actual body of information out there on creating and charging third parties? |
| snuffleupagus | Posted 7/5/2007 2:04:33 PM | show profile | email poster I've done rudimentary podcasts to go along with features I write for one trade pub. They ask me to submit audio from my best interview(s), and then someone on the magazine's staff interviews me and mixes the whole thing down to 5-7 minutes. I get an extra $225 for this. It's a good deal, but I wouldn't do one of these things from scratch. |
