I have a brilliant idea for a 'guide to' book. Anyone know a publishing company that is open to these kinds of books.

Thanks

Here we go again. You can find this out easily if you go to bookstores and do a little research. You will have to do
market research anyway for the fabulous proposal you will need to write in order to sell any guide book.

Do a google search on Guide and Subject (jewelry making, Nepal, whatever) to see what's out there already. (If there's already a related guide, that can be a good thing, because it shows the market for it.)

Get a book about making book proposals. Read articles, see what works.

Look online at Amazon or in bookstores to find which publishers specialize in guides like the one you want to do. Buy or check out of library one of their sample guides to get a feel for their line of books and what you'll need to show you can do. See if their website has their proposal guidelines on it.

Make your proposal carefully, using tried and true methods.

I have found it worked wonders to have a firm grip on the subject matter. Look at other books/sites on it.

Here's a link to an upcoming MB one-night course on the topic of travel guides -- it sounds like a really great overview. WIsh I lived closer and hadn't just come back from NYC!
