| seeattleme | Posted 7/9/2007 6:24:44 PM | show profile You gotta live in nyc, catch one (the only place where publishing counts)/ catch Two, How much? But I guess if it's significantly cheaper than Columbia's little publishing playground for the rich ("They give scholarships!" one editor who hasn't hired a single working class background, state college work study grad in his entire four decades of doing so, told me once), it'll be worthwhile, I suppose. |

| getmeoutofhere | Posted 7/10/2007 9:53:18 AM | show profile and to granitegirl: how much does Columbia's Publishing Course cost? I looked at their Web site, and was unable to find an amount...I did see a required $1,000 non-refundable deposit, however... |

| aj | Posted 7/10/2007 4:33:04 PM | show profile Are people really paying $350 for this? I'm kind of shocked at the price of this event, especially for a new grad. We held a similar event in Atlanta last year (granted, it's Atlanta, not NY) but are planning two more for NY and LA in 2008. It's not just media related, but plenty of media presence and networking there. Just curious to know if others feel this is pricey. See www.makingitinthecity.com for more info. |
| getmeoutofhere | Posted 7/10/2007 5:05:50 PM | show profile re: aj i'm not even a recent grad, and i find it pricey. i'm temping while i look for "real work," and that amount it a) half my rent and b) three-quarters of a week's paycheck. the interviewing, resume and cover letter seminars are things that are (or should be) offered by any decent undergrad program or college... i assume what you're paying for is potential face time with "top editors." to that end, it may be worthwhile...but only for the most aggressive attendees, i'd think. |
