Topic: Looking For Real-Life Anecdotes From Women

| Women's Magazine Writer | Posted 7/10/2007 7:10:02 PM | show profile | email poster I'm writing an article for a women's magazine and need to geta couple of short anecdotes from "real" women (as opposed to experts) who asserted themselves and got what they wanted. I'm specifically looking for anecdotes from 2 women for the following scenarios: 1. Friends: A story about a woman who loaned money to a friend who "forgot" to pay her back. But finally she spoke up and got her money back, and best of all, kept the friendship intact. (The friend, of course, would remain anonymous). It doesn't have to be a huge sum of money?in fact, it's better if it isn't. Or, perhaps an anecdote from a woman who often eats out to eat with a friend who always ordered the most expensive item on the menu and expected to split the bill 50/50--until the woman spoke up. Or if not money, an anecdote from a woman who realized that she was doing all the giving with friends--giving too much time, for example--before finally setting up some healthy boundaries. 2. Salesclerks, Waitresses, Customer Service People A story from a woman who had a problem at a store or restaurant, spoke up and got it resolved. For example: she bought something that turned out to be defective, went back to the store and got her money back. Or, she went out to eat and realized she was overcharged. But she spoke to the manager and got her bill adjusted. These are just possible examples?the actual anecdotes could be practically anything. The point is that the woman spoke up and got a positive result. The anecdotes don't have to be dramatic or newsworthy. I'm really looking for common stories that other women can relate to. The woman should be young, in her mid to late 20s or 30s. If you?re interested in sharing your story, please email me ASAP. Thanks! |

It was under five dollars. I did speak up and the charge was returned. It wasn't the amount but rather the fact that if it happened all the time we would be paying too much for the parts we needed. So I needed to bring it to his atention. It has not always been easy for me to speak up about money, so this was a bit of a break through, and now he respects that I have an eye for detail and no little thing will go unnoticed. If you want more details let me know. Hope this helps Devon |

I was wondering if you have a story you could share that's not work-related. Maybe you spoke up and returned something to a store? Or, perhaps you spoke up to a friend and got some money back? The possibilites are pretty endless--but I'm looking for more personal anecdotes, rather than work-related ones. Let me know. Thanks! |
