My girlfriend is currently running a very prominent high end woman's clothing store in Manhattan and has been with this company since she has graduated college 4 years ago.

She now wants to leave but feels stuck. Having been in the retail business since the start of her professional life she feels that this has hurt her more than helped her in her search to find something new.

I am wondering if someone can direct me to a career counselor or head hunter in Manhattan that can sit down and speak to my girlfriend about her career aspirations.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

- Ryan

Can she get in touch with her college guidance office? Their services are generally still free for alumni and might be more targeted. I am guessing that since you're posting this on here, she's also interested in more media related careers (fashion mags or pr, I am guessing?) and those are fields that, in my experience, career counselors are less familiar with. The kind of broad advice that works really well in corporate settings is not always applicable to media jobs, so she might do better to ask around friends of friends, etc., to see if there is anyone working in a field more closely related to what she'd like to pursue whom she can meet for drinks/coffee and discuss things with. Not in a "give me a job" sort of way, but just as a way of feeling things out. I'm sure it's possible there are good career counselors out there, but I have a feeling a lot of them are a waste of money.
