I wonder how others respond to editors/writers looking for a celebrity hook when writing about or including one of your client's products in a piece.

I work with a fairly popular and increasingly recognizable brand that has had celebrities and their stylists buy the products at our retailers as well as on the company's web site.

I've always felt that it was OK to mention celebs we hear about through our retailers, but don't feel it's right to mention anyone who ordered on-line due to privacy issues. They're paying customers and not people who came through a swag suite and expect their names to used.

We've had a few A list people order though the web site. How have you gone about mentioning them as a "fan" for your clients' brand? Call their reps and send over additional product?

I just don't feel there's any way to do this ethically, as we're not paying them for an endorsement. Opinions please..... thanks!
