I'm searching for an authentic Irish bakery in New York City. Any recommendations? Google has not turned up much information.
I'll be in NYC on Monday and Wednesday.

Since returning from my trip to Ireland a few months ago, I am jonesing something fierce for scones, scofa bread and banofee pie.

Slainte!

Hi,

The only Irish bakeries I know of are in Woodside, Queens. If you have time, get the #7 train to 61st/Woodside Station. Not a long ride from the city, esp. if you luck out and get an express train.

Right on 61st between Roosevelt and Woodside Aves. are a couple of Irish bakeries that specialize in the things you're craving. There's also a coffee shop right on the corner of 61st & Roosevelt - right under the train station - that serves a good Irish breakfast.

I'm over there on the weekends, catching the LIRR out to the beach and we stop there for breakfast. We're often surrounded by young Irish guys and gals finishing up their late nights out with a good fry up.

Enjoy.

There's a large Irish expat comm in this Queens nabe. Can't think of a bakery per se, but there are ton of shops that sell Irish products. The Butcher Block, on 42nd Street (I think) just north of Queens Blvd springs to mind. They have all sorts of Irish goodies, from soda bread to homemade sausages and black pudding. Take the 7 train to 40th Street.

Try foodireland.com. Since leaving NY, they are my source for Odlum's flour, which is essential (as far as my spouse from County Meath is concerned) for making bona fide brown bread. They also have ready-made baked goods and a lot of other really neat stuff.

Thank you for the suggestions! I didn't make it out to Queens, but Mad Fingers, the web site you suggested is fantastic. I've ordered a case of brown bread along with some Mr. Crumb.
