With the sale of Mediabistro to Jupiterwhatever, what's the outlook for Freelance Marketplace? Is it a keeper? Would it be better to put off setting up a page there until the buyer's plans shake out?

It's just my 2 cents, but I don't see why you would wait. By the time a sale is fully consummated, new ownership is in place, business plans are reviewed and revised, it's a long time until any substantial changes would be made. And would they be made? I can't help but think FM is a money maker -- the cost can only get higher, I would think, with a more profit-centric owner, so it might be wise to lock in the sub rate sooner than later.

I was thinking the same thing, Jim. I was also thinking, "I sure hope the buyers give the site a new color scheme!"

Belinda, I can't say with 100-percent certainty that aspects of the site will or won't change -- to quote former baseball player Joaquin Andujar, "There is one word in America that says it all, and that one word is, 'You never know.' " But I think I'm on pretty solid ground when I say that our acquisition by Jupiter Media will have zero impact on Freelance Marketplace at any point in the foreseeable future.

That's not to say the service won't be changing -- we have a number of improvements that we've been working on since long before the deal was announced that we hope to roll out in the coming months. But if your concern is that Jupiter will come in and shut down the Marketplace, I really don't think you have much to worry about. In fact, I doubt much at all will change on the site, at least from the user's perspective.

If you're still not reassured, I would suggest that you sign up for a month-to-month subscription, which you can cancel at any time. Or else just email me with your questions.

Thanks,
