Topic: Best way to follow-up on a job I really want?

As of right now, I applied for an Editorial Asst. position and was asked to submit two writing samples by answering a few "brain teaser" questions and writing an article summary. I think I did a pretty good job on both and submitted them on Friday. I sent an email on Monday just to confirm that they were received and asked about a possible timetable in regards to them making any interview decisions. They replied by saying that they received my samples, but the application process is "taking longer than expected" and I will be contacted "soon". I'm not saying they are giving me the runaround or anything like that, but I have been in this exact same position countless times in the past year in which I ended up never hearing back from the employer after being told to wait to be contacted. Is there ANYTHING I can do as of right now, maybe in the way of putting in a very polite phone call or anything like that? Or do I just sit back and wait? I just feel so helpless, and pretty desperate. All I want is at least an interview. Thanks for any ideas/advice. |
