| no techie | Posted 8/7/2007 4:20:11 PM | show profile I have an idea for a sit com. Where do I begin? Do I really have to write a script for it or can I do a treatment? Does an agent have to submit my idea to a network? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 8/7/2007 4:28:37 PM | show profile Go to the writing section of a big bookstore or library. There are many books on sitcoms and the sitcom industry. Generally, it's almost impossible to sell a new sitcom unless you are an experienced sitcom writer/show runner or a hot standup comic the network wants to do business with. |
| ManhattanMatt | Posted 8/7/2007 4:34:30 PM | show profile Your chances are much better ... ...if you get a staff writing job on an existing sitcom first. Studio executives don't sit down to listen to new ideas from people who don't already have a proven track record. |
| bart23ny | Posted 8/13/2007 2:09:39 PM | show profile | email poster MediaBistro offers a great course called the Sitcom Writers Workshop. I took it this past April and it was much more than how to write a sitcom. It was taught by Ellen Sandler, who was a staff writer for Everybody Loves Raymond. I just did a quick scan of the courses page and didn't see it listed, but keep checking or email MediaBistro to see when the next one will be. |
