Two days, and two rejections from NYT and WaPo for an op-ed written as part of my full-time job.

Is it at least a good sign I got a personal call from NYT rather than an e-mail? Someone make me feel better here. :)

what do you mean by "an op ed written as part of my full time job"? Perhaps that's why they rejected it?

I think I may have confused you- It was ghost-written as part of my full-time job (Nonprofit PR) with our president's name on it. It's on a timely newsworthy topic. I only meant to say it's not a personal op-ed from my viewpoint.

A call should make you feel better, definitely. Do you think they could tell it was an op-ed YOU wrote for someone else? I mean, that it was ghost-written? Maybe they thot it was so smart, someone else had to have written it!

Hey! It's not you! It's your president!

Don't feel bad...you're not the one being rejected. It's probably politics more than talent.

You're right Angela...they're technically rejecting my pres, but I am still feeling the effects of the drop-kick to my writing. I hope it was the topic selection rather than the writing. Because of *course* my writing is excellent. Right? Right...

I suppose that really, I feel down more because this is a really important topic to me, and I want it to get more media attention. I think I get too personally invested in my job successes sometimes, but I am guessing that's pretty common for the nonprofit world.

Aww, sorry Mag Girl. I've been there, too. Honestly, when I get back-to-back rejections I scrape my ego off the floor long enough to follow up on any other irons I have in the fire.

My theory is as follows: Hey, if you get three or even four rejections in the same day, that is a 100% legitimate reason to go out and have a pity-party, complete with takeout ethnic food and copious amounts of Shiraz.

Carving out time to sulk and/or wallow (whatever your pity-party style is ;-) gets it out of your system.

PS. I agree w/ the others on here who have said that a call is a good sign.
